Ubud as tourust destination

Ubud is, in many ways, the cultural center of Bali. Home to one of Bali’s royal families, this particular traditional country town has royal palaces and historic holy places. The town is even where a number of the world’s successful artisans and enthusiasts have gone to and worked in. Also the main road are dozens of art studios and galleries, together with an exceptional local crafts market place selling antiques, woodcarvings, crafts, textiles, paintings, and fine jewelry. A brief ride outside Ubud will take you to Tegenungan Waterfall, Ubud Monkey Forest, and the photogenic Tegallalang rice terrace. Join a field trip to local villages like Campuhan, Penestanan, Peliatan, and Batuan, where you can discover locals making and selling authentic Balinese crafts.

Ubud is one of those places where a holiday of a few days can easily transform into a stay of weeks, months and even years. The scale of the town’s expat community vouches for this, and so do the many fictions and videos that have been set here, creative responses to the irresisteble nature of this most cultured of all Balinese villages. This is a spot where traditional Balinese culture imbues every waking time, where colorful offerings adorn the streets and where the hypnotic strains of gamelan are an ever-present soundtrack to day-to-day life. It’s also somewhere that is relentlessly on-trend– a display of ecological design, mindfulness, culinary inspiration and the very best that global tourism has to offer. Come here for leisure, for restoration and to have what may well be the most mystical vacation of your life.

8 suggested trip activities you can go for today

1. Kecak Dance performance

Ubud is renowned for its traditional dance shows. We didn’t have very high assumptions but appreciated the Kecak dance we saw at the temple in Junjungan town.
About 60 sarong-clad men provide the soundtrack of haunting shouts, while dancers recreate a story from the Ramayana. It is less busy and commercial than the performances in the centre– all 150 family members in the village are included and continues go towards temple activities.

2. Practice Yoga and fitness

Ubud is yogi nirvana! Whether you choose fast-paced vinyasa or soft yin, you’ll get a session to suit you. It’s the best place to make your own yoga retreat by buying an inexpensive multi-class pass.

3. Downhill Bike Expedition

We don’t cycle frequently, but the Bali Eco Cycling activity was effortless– it was all downhill and we hardly needed to pedal! We began with breakfast overlooking the volcano Mt Batur before cycling through the countryside halting at a family compound, rice fields, and a 500-year-.

4. Monkey forest

The Monkey Forest is among the top Ubud attractions, but we were a little concerned about braving the famous monkeys. It became a pleasurable walk through the forest with temples and banyan trees that thought that an Indiana Jones set.

Aware of the monkeys, though– they are stealers and may possibly be bold. We didn’t take a bag, sunglasses, or have something in our wallets (except cash to get in and my camera around my neck), and they didn’t trouble us.

Don’t give them food — you will end up with monkeys climbing all over you. This may sound cool, but rabies is prevalent in Bali, and if you get bitten or scraped (a common occurrence), you’ll need a number of treatments.

5. Pura Gunung Kawi

This 11th-century temple features shrines engraved into the rock at the end of a river valley. It’s a 30-minute drive from Ubud and deserves combining with Tirta Empul. Arrive quickly to avoid the groups and souvenir sellers– at 8 am there were only two other visitors.

6. Tirta EmpuWater Temple

The water temple Tirta Empul is near to Gunung Kawi. Balinese Hindus go here to bathe in the divine waters.

7. Tegenungan Falls

The waterfall isn’t massive, but the landscapes is marvelous, and we had a swim in the pool. Again, get there early.

It’s a 25-minute travel from Ubud and can be combined with the Hidden Canyon. We didn’t make it down the canyon as it became more serious than we expected– come prepared to clamber rocks and wade through waist-high water. It’s best to get one of the Balinese guides to present you the way.

8. Visit an Art Gallery.

Ubud is an extremely artistic village. You can head to lots of small shops to get the artwork or bigger art museums to find out about the background of art in Ubud. I delighted in the Balinese art at Neka Art Museum the most, although the architecture at the Antonio Blanco Museum was surely eccentric.
