Ubud as tourust destination

Ubud is, in many ways, the ethnic core of Bali. Home to one of Bali’s imperial families, this one traditional country area has imperial palaces and historic holy places. The city is furthermore where a number of the world’s outstanding artisans and collectors have seen and worked in. Near the main road are dozens of art studios and galleries, together with an amazing local crafts market selling antiques, woodcarvings, crafts, textiles, art work, and fine jewelry. A brief ride outside Ubud will take you to Tegenungan Waterfall, Ubud Monkey Forest, and the photogenic Tegallalang rice terrace. Join an excursion to local villages like Campuhan, Penestanan, Peliatan, and Batuan, where you can experience locals making and selling authentic Balinese crafts.

Ubud is one of those places where a vacation of a few days can simply transform into a stay of weeks, months or even years. The scale of the town’s expat community confirms this, and so do the various novels and videos that have been set here, creative responses to the tempting nature of this most cultured of all Balinese towns. This is a spot where traditional Balinese culture suffuses every waking time, where colorful offerings decorate the streets and where the hypnotic strains of gamelan are an ever-present soundtrack to daily life. It’s also someplace that is often on-trend– a display of renewable creation, mindfulness, culinary inventiveness and the absolute best that global tourism has to offer. Come here for leisure, for revitalization and to have what may well be the most remarkable holiday of your life.

8 highly recommended outing activities you can try out now

1. Kecak Dance performance

Ubud is well-known for its traditional dance performances. We didn’t have very high hopes but adored the Kecak dance we saw at the temple in Junjungan village.
Around 60 sarong-clad men give the soundtrack of haunting intonations, while dancers recreate a tale from the Ramayana. It is less hectic and commercial than the performances in the centre– all 150 families in the village are included and proceeds go towards temple events.

2. Practice Yoga exercise

Ubud is yogi paradise! No matter if you like hectic vinyasa or gentle yin, you’ll find a session to fit you. It’s the great place to make your own yoga retreat by getting an inexpensive multi-class pass.

3. Downhill Bike Trek

We don’t cycle frequently, still, the Bali Eco Cycling tour was effortless– it was all downhill and we hardly had to pedal! We began with breakfast overlooking the volcano Mt Batur before cycling through the countryside stopping at a family compound, rice fields, and a 500-year-.

4. Monkey forest

The Monkey Forest is one of the top Ubud interests, but we were a little worried about braving the famous monkeys. It turned out to be a pleasant walk through the forest with temples and banyan trees that felt like an Indiana Jones set.

Aware of the monkeys, though– they are thieves and may possibly be aggressive. We didn’t take a bag, sunglasses, or have something in our pockets (except cash to get in and my camera around my neck), and they didn’t bother us.

Don’t offer them food — you will end up with monkeys climbing all over you. This may sound exciting, but rabies is prevalent in Bali, and if you get bitten or damaged (a common occurrence), you’ll need a series of treatments.

5. Pura Gunung Kawi

This 11th-century temple features shrines sculpted into the rock at the end of a river valley. It’s a 30-minute drive from Ubud and deserves merging with Tirta Empul. Get there early to avoid the crowds and souvenir sellers– at 8 am there were just 2 other visitors.

6. Tirta EmpuWater Temple

The water temple Tirta Empul is near to Gunung Kawi. Balinese Hindus get here to bathe in the holy waters.

7. Tegenungan Waterfall

The waterfall isn’t huge, but the surroundings is attractive, and we had a swim in the pool. Once again, arrive early.

It’s a 25-minute ride from Ubud and can be combined with the Hidden Canyon. We didn’t make it down the canyon as it became more serious than we anticipated– come prepared to clamber rocks and wade through waist-high water. It’s best to choose one of the Balinese guides to show you the way.

8. Go to Art Gallery.

Ubud is a very artsy village. You can head to tons of small workshops to get the artwork or bigger art museums to find out about the history of art in Ubud. I took pleasure in the Balinese art at Neka Art Museum the most, although the architecture at the Antonio Blanco Museum was surely unusual.

Literally, there are hundreds of more activities that you can explore while you are in Ubud Bali.
