Ubud as tourust destination

Ubud is, in many ways, the ethnic core of Bali. House to one of Bali’s royal families, this one traditional country town has imperial palaces and historical sanctuaries. The town is also where some of the world’s notable craftsmans and enthusiasts have visited and worked in. Throughout the main road are dozens of art studios and galleries, in conjunction with an impressive local crafts market place selling vintages, woodcarvings, crafts, cloths, paintings, and jewelry. A little drive outside Ubud will get you to Tegenungan Waterfall, Ubud Monkey Forest, and the photogenic Tegallalang rice terrace. Participate in a day trip to local villages like Campuhan, Penestanan, Peliatan, and Batuan, where you can see Balinesse making and selling authentic Balinese crafts.

Ubud is one of those places where a holiday of a several days can simply become a stay of weeks, months or even years. The size of the town’s expat community vouches for this, and so do the many fictions and videos that have been established here, creative responses to the irresistible nature of this most cultured of all Balinese towns. This is a place where traditional Balinese culture suffuses every waking time, where vibrant offerings dress up the streets and where the meditative strains of gamelan are an ever-present soundtrack to regular life. It’s also somewhere that is often on-trend– a display of sustainable creation, mindfulness, culinary inspiration and the very best that global tourism has to offer. Come here for relaxation, for rejuvenation and to have what may well be the most remarkable vacation of your life.

8 suggested outing activities you can try out now

1. Kecak Dance event

Ubud is recognized for its traditional dance performances. We didn’t have very strong expectations but liked the Kecak dance we saw at the temple in Junjungan town.
Approximately 60 sarong-clad men give the soundtrack of spooking shouts, while dancers engage in a tale from the Ramayana. It is less busy and business than the performances in the centre– all 150 families in the village are included and continues go towards temple activities.

2. Practice Yoga

Ubud is yogi wonderland! Whether you desire hectic vinyasa or gentle yin, you’ll find a course to suit you. It’s the perfect place to make your own yoga retreat by getting an inexpensive multi-class pass.

3. Downhill Bike Expedition

We don’t cycle often, yet the Bali Eco Cycling tour was easy– it was all downhill and we rarely had to pedal! We began with breakfast overlooking the volcano Mt Batur before cycling through the countryside stopping at a family compound, rice fields, and a 500-year-.

4. Monkey forest

The Monkey Forest belongs to the top Ubud interests, but we were a little nervous about facing the notable monkeys. It ended up being a pleasant walk through the forest with temples and banyan trees that felt like an Indiana Jones set.

Aware of the monkeys, though– they are stealers and can possibly be aggressive. We didn’t take a bag, sunglasses, or have anything in our wallets (except cash to get in and my camera around my neck), and they didn’t trouble us.

Don’t feed them — you will turn out with monkeys climbing all over you. This may sound cool, but rabies is prevalent in Bali, and if you get bitten or damaged (a common situation), you’ll need a series of shots.

5. Pura Gunung Kawi

This 11th-century temple features shrines sculpted into the rock at the bottom of a river valley. It’s a 30-minute drive from Ubud and is worth merging with Tirta Empul. Arrive quickly to avoid the crowds and souvenir sellers– at 8 am there were only 2 other guests.

6. Tirta EmpuWater Temple

The water temple Tirta Empul is near to Gunung Kawi. Balinese Hindus get here to bathe in the holy waters.

7. Tegenungan Waterfall

The waterfall isn’t massive, yet the surroundings is charming, and we liked a swim in the pool. Again, arrive early.

It’s a 25-minute drive from Ubud and can be combined with the Hidden Canyon. We didn’t make it down the canyon as it became more hardcore than we expected– come ready to climb rocks and wade through waist-high water. It’s best to get one of the local guides to show you the way.

8. Pay visit to Art Gallery.

Ubud is a very artsy town. You can see lots of small workshops to purchase the artwork or bigger art museums to discover the history of art in Ubud. I enjoyed the Balinese art at Neka Art Museum the most, though the architecture at the Antonio Blanco Museum was certainly eccentric.

In fact, there are hundreds of more things that you can discover when you are in Ubud Bali.
