Ubud as tourust destination

Ubud is, in lots of ways, the ethnic core of Bali. Home to one of Bali’s royal families, this one traditional country place has royal palaces and historical sanctuaries. The town is even where a number of the world’s well known craftsmens and collectors have visited and worked in. Throughout the main street are lots of art studios and galleries, along with an amazing local crafts market selling antiques, woodcarvings, crafts, cloths, paintings, and fine jewelry. A brief trip outside Ubud will get you to Tegenungan Waterfall, Ubud Monkey Forest, and the photogenic Tegallalang rice terrace. Sign up with a day trip to local villages like Campuhan, Penestanan, Peliatan, and Batuan, where you can discover Balinesse making and selling authentic Balinese crafts.

Ubud is one of those places where a vacation of a several days can simply transform into a stay of weeks, months or maybe years. The scale of the town’s expat community attests to this, and so do the various stories and films that have been established here, creative responses to the sexy nature of this most cultured of all Balinese villages. This is a place where traditional Balinese culture suffuses every waking moment, where vibrant offerings decorate the streets and where the charismatic strains of gamelan are an ever-present soundtrack to regular life. It’s also somewhere that is relentlessly on-trend– a showcase of renewable design, mindfulness, culinary inspiration and the absolute best that worldwide tourism has to offer. Come here for relaxation, for revitalization and to have what may well be the most marvelous holiday of your life.

8 suggested travel activities you can try today

1. Kecak Dance event

Ubud is recognized for its traditional dance performances. We didn’t have very high expectations but adored the Kecak dance we saw at the temple in Junjungan village.
Around 60 sarong-clad men give the soundtrack of haunting intonations, while dancers recreate a story from the Ramayana. It is less busy and business than the performances in the centre– all 150 family members in the village are included and continues go towards temple events.

2. Practice Yoga

Ubud is yogi wonderland! No matter if you like fast-paced vinyasa or gentle yin, you’ll find a course to suit you. It’s the perfect place to create your own yoga retreat by buying an affordable multi-class pass.

3. Downhill Bike Expedition

We don’t cycle often, but the Bali Eco Cycling activity was easy– it was all downhill and we rarely had to pedal! We started with breakfast overlooking the volcano Mt Batur before cycling through the countryside halting at a family compound, rice fields, and a 500-year-.

4. Monkey forest

The Monkey Forest is one of the top Ubud tourist attractions, but we were actually a little concerned about braving the famous monkeys. It became a delightful exercise the forest with temples and banyan trees that seemed like an Indiana Jones set.

Be careful of the monkeys, though– they are stealers and can possibly be bold. We didn’t take a bag, sunglasses, or have anything in our pockets (except cash to get in and my camera around my neck), and they didn’t trouble us.

Don’t offer them food — you will end up with monkeys climbing all over you. This may sound fun, but rabies prevails in Bali, and if you get bitten or scratched (a common occurrence), you’ll need a number of treatments.

5. Pura Gunung Kawi

This 11th-century temple features shrines sculpted into the rock at the end of a river valley. It’s a 30-minute drive from Ubud and is worth merging with Tirta Empul. Get there early to avoid the groups and souvenir sellers– at 8 am there were only two other visitors.

6. Tirta EmpuWater Temple

The water temple Tirta Empul is close to Gunung Kawi. Balinese Hindus get here to bathe in the divine waters.

7. Tegenungan Waterfall

The waterfall isn’t massive, still, the surroundings is marvelous, and we enjoyed a swim in the pool. Once again, arrive early.

It’s a 25-minute trip from Ubud and can be combined with the Hidden Canyon. We didn’t make it down the canyon as it turned out to be more serious than we expected– come prepared to clamber rocks and wade through waist-high water. It’s best to find one of the Balinese guides to reveal you the way.

8. Visit an Art Gallery.

Ubud is a very artsy town. You can visit lots of small workshops to get the artwork or larger art museums to learn more about the history of art in Ubud. I took pleasure in the Balinese art at Neka Art Museum the most, though the architecture at the Antonio Blanco Museum was definitely unusual.

In fact, there are hundreds of more activities that you can explore while you are in Ubud Bali.
