Ubud as tourust destination

Ubud is, in most ways, the cultural center of Bali. House to one of Bali’s royal families, this traditional country town has royal palaces and ancient holy places. The city is even where a number of the world’s well known artisans and collectors have gone to and worked in. Along the main street are lots of art studios and galleries, together with an impressive local crafts market selling vintages, woodcarvings, crafts, fabrics, paintings, and jewelry. A little run outside Ubud will take you to Tegenungan Waterfall, Ubud Monkey Forest, and the photogenic Tegallalang rice terrace. Sign up with a day trip to local villages like Campuhan, Penestanan, Peliatan, and Batuan, where you can view locals making and selling authentic Balinese crafts.

Ubud is one of those places where a holiday of a several days can easily transform into a stay of weeks, months or perhaps years. The scale of the town’s expat community attests to this, and so do the various fictions and films that have been established here, creative responses to the tempting nature of this most cultured of all Balinese towns. This is a place where traditional Balinese culture suffuses every waking time, where vibrant offerings adorn the streets and where the meditative strains of gamelan are an ever-present soundtrack to day-to-day life. It’s also somewhere that is often on-trend– a display of eco friendly creation, mindfulness, culinary inspiration and the absolute best that global tourism has to offer. Come here for comfort, for restoration and to have what may well be the most marvelous vacation of your life.

8 recommended travel activities you can try out today

1. Kecak Dance show

Ubud is well-known for its traditional dance performances. We didn’t have very high hopes but appreciated the Kecak dance we saw at the temple in Junjungan village.
Around 60 sarong-clad men offer the soundtrack of haunting shouts, while dancers engage in a story from the Ramayana. It is less busy and business than the performances in the centre– all 150 family members in the village are involved and proceeds go towards temple activities.

2. Engage in Yoga exercise

Ubud is yogi heaven! Whether you like hectic vinyasa or gentle yin, you’ll discover a session to fit you. It’s the perfect place to make your own yoga retreat by getting an affordable multi-class pass.

3. Downhill Bike Trek

We don’t cycle frequently, but the Bali Eco Cycling excursion was easy– it was all downhill and we almost never had to pedal! We started with breakfast overlooking the volcano Mt Batur before cycling through the country side halting at a family compound, rice fields, and a 500-year-.

4. Monkey forest

The Monkey Forest is one of the top Ubud attractions, but we were actually a little concerned about facing the notable monkeys. It turned out to be a delightful exercise the forest with temples and banyan trees that seemed like an Indiana Jones set.

Look out of the monkeys, though– they are thieves and can be bold. We didn’t take a bag, sunglasses, or have anything in our pockets (except cash to enter and my camera around my neck), and they didn’t trouble us.

Don’t offer them food — you will find yourself with monkeys climbing all over you. This may sound fun, but rabies is prevalent in Bali, and if you get bitten or damaged (a common situation), you’ll need a series of injections.

5. Pura Gunung Kawi

This 11th-century temple features shrines engraved into the rock at the bottom of a river valley. It’s a 30-minute drive from Ubud and deserves merging with Tirta Empul. Arrive quickly to avoid the groups and souvenir sellers– at 8 am there were just two other guests.

6. Tirta EmpuWater Temple

The water temple Tirta Empul is near to Gunung Kawi. Balinese Hindus go here to bathe in the holy waters.

7. Tegenungan Waterfall

The waterfall isn’t huge, still, the landscapes is beautiful, and we had a swim in the pool. Once again, arrive early.

It’s a 25-minute travel from Ubud and can be combined with the Hidden Canyon. We didn’t make it down the canyon as it turned out to be more serious than we anticipated– come equipped to climb rocks and wade through waist-high water. It’s best to hire one of the local guides to show you the way.

8. Pay visit to Art Gallery.

Ubud is a very artistic town. You can see tons of small studios to get the artwork or bigger art museums to find out about the history of art in Ubud. I took pleasure in the Balinese art at Neka Art Museum the most, despite the fact that the architecture at the Antonio Blanco Museum was surely eccentric.
